Merck Serono has just announced the creation and funding of a Chair of Excellence for three years from 2009 onwards. The new "Environment, Cancer and Nutrition" chair will enable the Canceropôle Lyons Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (CLARA) cancer network to develop "nutriprevention" programs and coordinate the various stakeholders involved in the fight against cancer.
Other project partners include the Leon Bérard Cancer Centre in Lyons, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) for epidemiological aspects and the Greater Lyons Metropolitan Area. The collaborating organizations plan to develop other clinical, epidemiological and fundamental research projects in this field.
