Under the impetus of a Europe-wide group of specialist epilepsy centers, the meeting's goal is to explore the complex subject of pediatric epilepsy surgery.
The symposium was initiated by the champions of a planned Pediatric Epilepsy Institute (Institut Des Épilepsies de l'Enfant et de l'Adolescent, IDÉE) in Lyons and forms part of a seminar cycle which alternates between Munich, Lyons and Cleveland. The Fondation IDÉE was set up in Lyons in July 2007 so that it could leverage an ideal environment in the field of the neurosciences, in order to (i) create what would be the only institute of its kind in Europe and (ii) promote the development of advanced technologies and therapeutics.
The symposium's second edition will tackle the following themes:
- appropriate diagnosis and treatment of epileptic syndromes.
- early identification of surgical candidates as a means of curing epilepsy, whenever possible.
- issues related to the preservation of cognitive development and socioprofessional integration.
Expert neurologists, neuropediatricians, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and neuropsychologists from over 45 countries are expected to attend the event and debate these topics.
